Purpose

The purpose of this seminar is to provide healthcare professionals who care for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia specialized training to ensure appropriate, competent, and sensitive care.  This program is a must for all healthcare professionals who provide services to residents with dementia.

Any healthcare professional with direct care responsibilities for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia, with at least 1-year experience in a geriatric care setting, will be one step closer to obtaining CDP credentials.

  • Identify methods for assisting patients with activities of daily living, while maintaining dignity and comfort

  • Recognize common causes of aggression, repetitive behaviors, and sundowning

  • Learn alternative activity interventions that account for varying levels of abilities

  • Discuss environmental design and considerations to maximize comfort and usability of space

  • Identify sexuality and intimacy needs and concerns

  • Highlight cultural needs and perceptions impacting care needs and client support systems

  • Gain an understanding of nutritional needs and strategies 

  • Recognize caregiver needs and support systems

  • Explore end-of-life care needs to provide peaceful transitions for clients, staff, and families

CDP Pathway

  • Register for the ADDC seminar (payment $195)

  • Receive confirmation email including Zoom details for the day of the seminar

  • Attend entire course to qualify to apply for CDP status 

  • Receive course certificate from KC

  • Complete CDP application online with NCCDP 30 days post-seminar (including a $160 payment to NCCDP)

  • Renew CDP every two years with 10 CEUs

Continuing Education Units 
           Nursing: CEUs awarded in many states             
OT: Meets criteria for Texas CEUs and many other states; meets NBCOT criteria.    
ST: Meets ASHA Requirements
  (it is the responsibility of the course attendee to confirm as criteria can change).

Kari is an Occupational Therapist, Certified Dementia Practitioner®, Certified Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia Care Trainer®, Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional®, Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional Trainer™, and a Board Certified Patient Advocate with over 25 years of healthcare experience. She began her career as a CNA, practiced as a Social Worker in the United Kingdom, and has been an Occupational Therapist for 14 years.

Kari uniquely weaves her personal experiences, in addition to her professional experiences, into the content that will be presented. The course review comments consistently mention her teaching style, interesting professional and personal case examples, and the immediate applicability to the real-life situations attendees face in their own roles.
